Troubleshooting

Try the Connection Tester
NetShade provides a Connection Tester which can help diagnose connectivity problems and recommend fixes. Please choose Connection Tester from the Window menu in the NetShade app.

VPN won't connect

1. Try using a public DNS service
Your ISP's DNS might be blocking requests from IPs other than their own. This can result in a broken DNS system when using a VPN. The solution is to use a public DNS service. As a convenience, NetShade can install Google Public DNS, a fast and free DNS service. This option is available in NetShade -> Preferences -> Advanced.

2. Check your account
Please check your account details to ensure your VPN access has not expired. This can be accessed through "Registration" under the NetShade menu.

3. Increase the VPN connection timeout
If you are on a very slow or error-prone Internet connection, you may need to increase the VPN connection timeout. You can do this in Preferences -> VPN.

4. Reboot
It's possible that some process on your system is in a bad state. Although not generally required, a reboot can sometimes be the most effective way to get things working again.

5. Uninstall
You can uninstall NetShade via Preferences->Advanced->Uninstall NetShade. This will remove all of NetShade's helper tools and support files, but not the app itself. Re-launch the app after uninstall. You will be asked to enter your registration code again.

6. Check your router
Do you have blocking on your router? Some routers have Childproof features that can be set on and off. Check your router for any abnormal settings. And/or shut down all Macs and unplug your router for a minute or so, and then back on. It may take a minute or so to download settings from your ISP. Then power up the Macs.

Other issues

The NetShade proxy servers are not letting me in
If you changed to a different network, you will need to Re-Sync with the server. You can do this via the gear menu to the right of the Proxies menu. If that does not work, you can try different ports (Preferences->Proxies).

There are no proxies
Try refreshing your proxy listing via the Gear menu. Bring up the Proxy Manager and make sure your filters are not too restrictive. Ensure your network has connectivity to app.raynersw.com . The NetShade server could be down as well.

The Off/On switch isn't clickable
If there wasn't an Internet connection available when you started NetShade but there is one now, you might need to refresh your proxy listing via the Gear menu.

The NetShade window isn't showing up
Bring it to the foreground via the Window menu. If it still doesn't appear, quit NetShade and relaunch.

NetShade isn't working in my browser
NetShade works with Safari, Chrome, Camino, OmniWeb, and FireFox. FireFox must be configured to use system proxy settings in its preferences. If you've verified that NetShade is On with a proxy selected, and http://www.raynersw.com/my_ip6.php is showing your real IP address, please contact us.
